AFC finalizes 'holy land' for the 2027 Asian Cup final

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) confirms that King Fahd Stadium in Riyadh will host the final and opening match of the 2027 Asian Cup.

Asian Football Confederation (AFC) officially confirms King Fahd Sports City Stadium in Riyadh will be the venue for the 2027 Asian Cup final. This is considered the most important information in the preparation roadmap for the continent's biggest football festival, as Saudi Arabia hosts the tournament for the first time since being awarded hosting rights.

"The 2027 Asian Cup will take place from January 7 to February 5, 2027, across three cities—Riyadh, Jeddah, and Al Khobar. King Fahd Sports Stadium in the Saudi capital (Riyadh), with a capacity of 72,000 seats, will host the two most important matches of the tournament: the opening match and the final.", the AFC stated.

In addition to hosting the two marquee matches, King Fahd Sports City will also stage four group stage matches, including the host nation's second match on January 12, a round of 16 match on January 24, and a quarter-final on January 29. The final is scheduled for early February 2027, concluding nearly a month of competition.

Nicknamed “The Tent” due to its roof inspired by traditional Bedouin architecture, King Fahd is the largest stadium among the eight venues for the tournament. With a capacity of over 70,000 seats, it will be the centerpiece of the event, while other matches will be distributed across Jeddah and Al Khobar.

8 stadiums will be used for the 2027 Asian Cup finals.

According to the plan, the draw for the 2027 Asian Cup finals group stage will be held on April 11 at Diriyah Salwa Palace in Riyadh. The host nation, Saudi Arabia, is placed in position A1 and will play the opening match on January 7, 2027, at King Fahd Stadium against the opponent designated as A4. The detailed match schedule will be announced immediately after the draw.

The 2027 Asian Cup is also seen as a crucial stepping stone before Saudi Arabia hosts the 2034 World Cup. Following the most recent Asian Cup, hosted and won by Qatar, the tournament was originally scheduled to be held in China in 2023 but was relocated due to pandemic policies. This time, with King Fahd as the stage for the final, Asia anticipates a spectacular conclusion in Riyadh.
