MU anxiously awaits as striker with 61 goals in 79 games suffers serious injury

Chido Obi suffered a head injury during the Chelsea U21 fixture, with a suspected concussion forcing his immediate withdrawal from the pitch.

Young striker Chido Obi had to leave the field just minutes into the U21 team's match. Manchester United faced Chelsea U21 due to a head injury. From the kick-off, Obi pressed the Chelsea goalkeeper to apply pressure, but the subsequent clearance struck him directly in the head, causing him to fall.

The young player was immediately attended to by the medical team and substituted after a lengthy stoppage. When Obi stood up, he received an encouraging round of applause from the spectators, while interim U21 manager Adam Lawrence also personally checked on his condition.

It is currently unclear whether this head injury will rule Obi out of the FA Youth Cup quarter-final against Sunderland on March 18th. The Premier League and FA have strict protocols for managing head injuries, providing clear return-to-play guidelines for suspected concussion cases. According to the rules, a player suspected of concussion is not permitted to return to official match play for a minimum of six days.

Following that period, the player is only allowed to gradually increase activity levels step by step, with each step separated by 24 hours. The steps include: no physical activity, light aerobic exercise, sport-specific training, non-contact training, full-contact training, and finally being cleared to return to match play (after receiving the "green light" from the club doctor).

Obi will be assessed in the coming days, and he may have to anxiously wait to see if he can pass the concussion protocol tests in time to be eligible for the Youth Cup quarter-final at Old Trafford.

Losing Obi would undoubtedly be a significant blow to MU's attack. Since joining the Red Devils from Arsenal, Obi has progressed rapidly. At 16, he was virtually unmatched at the U18 level, scoring 15 goals in 13 appearances.

Last season, Obi began playing for the U21s and even made several starts for the MU first team under Ruben Amorim. At the U21 level, Obi has scored 14 goals and provided 6 assists in 31 games. The Danish striker is regarded as one of the brightest prospects at MU currently.

Before joining MU, Obi had already attracted attention while playing for the youth team of Arsenal. The striker, born in 2007, caused a sensation by scoring 10 goals in Arsenal U16's 14-3 victory over Liverpool U16 last year. According to Opta statistics, since the year 2000, in official youth matches in England for age groups U16 and above, no player has ever reached the milestone of 10 goals in a single match like Obi-Martin.

In his career so far, Obi has scored a total of 61 goals and provided 10 assists in 79 appearances. At 18 years old, this is an exceptionally impressive record, and the day he is promoted to the MU first team is predicted to be not too far away.
