The match on the afternoon of March 2 at Terminal 21 Korat Arena (Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand) concluded with a convincing comeback victory for Coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang and his team. A bronze medal may not have fully satisfied the goal of defending the championship title, but the way the Vietnamese women's team rose after their stumble in the semi-finals contains many thought-provoking messages for the journey ahead.
Following the 2-4 defeat to Thailand in the semi-finals, the coaching staff of the Vietnam women's futsal team made a bold decision by benching several players who had underperformed in previous matches, decisively reshuffling the lineup. Goalkeeper Tran Thi Trang replaced captain Thuy Linh, while Vu Thi Hoa, Anh My... were given more playing time.
This was not merely a tactical adjustment, but also a message about internal competition and the desire for self-renewal. In a context where psychological pressure still weighed heavily, the coaching staff's decision was necessary to help the younger players progress.
Compared to Indonesia, the Vietnam women's futsal team still held a class advantage. The first half witnessed the dominant control of Thuy Trang and her teammates, forcing the opponent into a defensive stance. Shots from Nguyet Vi, Bien Thi Hang, or Thanh Ngan were launched repeatedly, but they either lacked precision or were denied by goalkeeper Fitry.
This lack of finishing made the fans anxious, especially as Indonesia showed they were no longer the pushovers of the past. The women's team from the archipelago played tight defense, switched transitions quickly, and launched sharp counter-attacks. Were it not for the excellence of Tran Thi Trang with her close-range saves, the Vietnam women's futsal team could have paid the price earlier.
The feared moment finally arrived right at the start of the second half. In the 21st minute, Nisman unleashed a laser-guided shot, the ball traveling low and dangerously, opening the scoring 1-0 for Indonesia. A cold shower for Coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang's team, at a moment when they were eagerly seeking a goal. Yet, that very moment of difficulty became the starting point for an impressive transformation.

Just minutes later, Thanh Ngan made her voice heard. A solo run past an Indonesian defender before unleashing a decisive finish to equalize 1-1 held value not only in skill but also in releasing psychological pressure. When confidence returned, the composure of the former champions was truly displayed.
Thuy Trang, with her extensive experience, proved her worth with a long-range shot that raised the score to 2-1. A surprising strike from near midfield, the ball traveling with power and placement that left Fitry helpless. That was the moment the Vietnamese women broke the opponent's will.
In the 27th minute, Bien Thi Hang surged from the second line following a well-orchestrated play to increase the score to 3-1. That goal nearly extinguished Indonesia's hopes. Although Indonesia later played with a power-play and tried to exert pressure, the alertness of Tran Thi Trang and a disciplined defensive system preserved the advantage. Phuong Anh's goal sealing a 4-1 victory late in the match was a deserved reward for Vietnam's superior performance.
This victory demonstrates the squad depth and tactical adaptability of Vietnam women's futsal. However, the bronze medal remains a reminder that the gap with Thailand and other regional rivals is no longer as wide as before.
After the 2024 Southeast Asian Championship title and the SEA Games 33 gold medal, expectations for the Vietnam women's futsal team have grown. Failing to defend the crown this time reflects issues regarding fitness, consistency, and the ability to maintain form in short, high-density tournaments. Nevertheless, the way the team responded after the defeat is what deserves recognition.
An imperfect tournament, but not overly disappointing either. The bronze medal is the result, but the lessons learned are what hold greater value. If they can honestly address their limitations and make timely adjustments, Vietnam women's futsal can certainly return stronger in the upcoming challenges.
