Vietnamese women's futsal team stages comeback to defeat Indonesia, clinches bronze medal at Southeast Asian Games

Vietnam's women's futsal squad earned the bronze medal at the 2026 Southeast Asian Games with a 4-1 victory over Indonesia.

The bronze medal match of the 2026 Southeast Asian Women's Futsal Championship between the Vietnamese and Indonesian women's futsal teams took place on March 2. In this match, the Vietnamese women's futsal team was considered the favorite, having defeated the Indonesian side 5-0 in the SEA Games 33 final to claim the gold medal, thanks to Thùy Trang and her teammates.

Right after the opening whistle, the Vietnamese women's futsal team surged forward to attack. In the 7th minute, Thu Xuân took a long-range shot but missed the target.

Afterward, the Vietnamese women's futsal team continued to apply pressure as Thùy Trang and Biện Thị Hằng had opportunities but failed to score.

In the 20th minute, goalkeeper Trần Thị Trang made an excellent save against Matulapelwa's shot. The first half ended 0-0. The Vietnamese women's futsal team dominated play but could not break the deadlock.

After conceding, the Vietnamese women's futsal team rallied strongly, shaking the Indonesian team's net.

In the 24th minute, Thanh Ngân intercepted the ball in midfield, broke through, and fired a shot into the opponent's net, equalizing 1-1.

This goal boosted the confidence of the Vietnamese women's futsal team. Just two minutes later, Thùy Trang struck with a dipping long-range shot, increasing the score to 2-1 for Vietnam. Consecutive goals conceded left the Indonesian players disorganized. Meanwhile, the Vietnamese women's futsal team maintained heavy pressure.

In the 27th minute, Biện Thị Hằng scored, raising the score to 3-1 for the Vietnamese women's futsal team.

In the final minutes, the Indonesian team, with nothing left to lose, played with a power play but could not score. Even more, the Vietnamese women's futsal team added a fourth goal thanks to Phương Anh's long-range shot in the 39th minute when the Indonesian goal was left unguarded.

In the end, the Vietnamese women's futsal team won 4-1 and claimed the bronze medal at the 2026 Southeast Asian Women's Futsal Championship.
